By Victoria at Extremely lovely weddings
At extremely lovely weddings we love styling weddings at Ufton Court – it’s such a fabulous venue with so much to offer couples. As well as hiring out wedding décor, trees and props, our passion lies in creating bespoke weddings, helping couples to really put their stamp on their wedding day by focusing on the look and feel they want to create, and then providing them with a plan on how to pull it all together.
Ufton Court is full of charm and character but it can be daunting wondering just where to start with regards to décor, however your wedding decorations needn’t be a huge expense and hiring items works out a lot cheaper than buying everything yourselves. It also means you end up with a more cohesive look. Making a plan, whether you enlist our help or do it yourselves, will save you loads of time and money and keep you on track.
One of the most exciting bits for us is meeting our couple at Ufton to have our first walkthrough. Here we discuss your ideas and what sort of style you like. There are always new trends appearing which are great for inspiration but the main objective is to help you create a wedding that is all about you as a couple. It’s your wedding day so choose colours and a style you both love if the latest trends aren’t your thing. Don’t feel like you need to stick with a rustic style just because of the surroundings either – a glamorous or classic style works just as well.
Whether your day’s celebrations begin at the Manor House, the Tithe Barn or in the Archer’s Hall, ensure you give your guests a warm welcome. Although each entrance at Ufton has its own character, adding a few extra touches really makes it your own and different from every other wedding. From bespoke signage to beautiful archways and trees – all give a great first impression and give your guests a hint of the magic that awaits them.
Baskets of blankets and brollies are a real bargain to hire and add a thoughtful touch for your guests while flipflops continue to be a hit (look for something a little different than the usual white).
With your table plan, you can think outside the box and really let your imagination run wild. Whatever way you approach it, there are a few tricks to pulling off a well-done table plan but they can be so much fun to create. Your guests will also appreciate being kept in the loop with an Order of Events as it just adds to the excitement.
Once inside your venue, again keep it simple. Fairylit trees, which really come into their own at night as extra lighting, add drama and look so good against the lovely white washed walls, oak beams and warm brickwork. Place them around the perimeter of the room to make the space feel more intimate, and to add something special as an aisle or backdrop. Add some pretty to the barn’s rear doors with a simple swag of ivory chiffon decorated with greenery and florals or try something more dramatic with long swathes of voile curtains framing the doors. For a bit of fun try a waterfall of ribbons in muted colours. A good tip is to keep the colour of your backdrop simple so that you don’t get lost amongst it in photos.
The cake and card tables are perfect spots to really add your own style and make an impact as your guests enter the venue. Add backdrops to each of the tables to really personalise them using lights, foliage, voile or papercraft and fill the areas between the cake, guest book and card box with greenery and candlelight so that it looks like a display rather than items just plonked on the tables. Wooden card crates and signs suit a rustic style but think about having us personalise them for something special. Use ivory frames, gold and glassware for a more glamorous look. It’s a nice touch to add a candlelit photo display of loved ones here too which can easily be put together with repurposed frames from charity shops or bargain stores and adding any other little treasures that mean something special to you.
Centrepieces are a whole other subject and this is where the possibilities are endless. Because you need a lot of each item, think about hiring the basics then adding your own little bits and pieces to tell your own little story.
Lastly don’t forget décor for the Archer’s Hall. Guests will have a lot of fun helping themselves at a rustic gin or rum bar or a perfectly stylish champagne bar – all it takes are the right props and know-how from us while you supply the drinks. Sweets will always be popular with guests of all ages (usually more so with the adults than the children!) but let us show you how to create a styled table using hired props mixed in with a few bits from home to create something a little different than the usual sweet cart and think about alternatives to sweets such as brownies, flavoured popcorn or your favourite treat to really make it special. The Archer’s Hall is also the perfect quiet space away from the music for family members to catch up or kiddies to play but it can seem a big extra space to decorate. Make it comfy and cosy with our ‘snuggle packs’ to hire and Ufton Court’s sweet bunting to fill the space. With just a few loving touches we can help you create a lovely warm evening snug area.
Whatever style you are thinking of for your wedding, Ufton Court is an amazing venue any time of the year and such a wonderful place to create a magical wedding day. Happy planning!
