Cyclists Raise £8,000 for Longhouse

  23 Oct 2018

Cyclists have raised more than £8,000 to help fund an inspiring Viking Longhouse style teaching space for young people.

Now in its second year, 165 cyclists took part in the Ufton Cycle Sportive which had its start and finish line at the Englefield Estate. Riders could choose between a 25-mile or a 55-mile route through the picturesque West Berkshire countryside.

A number of local businesses generously pledged their support for the event including headline sponsor PR motors, and there was also an event village for the community to enjoy at Englefield Primary School, with live music, games and stalls.

Held on September 29th, the sportive was a fundraiser for Ufton, whose Ufton Adventure outdoor learning programme raises the attainment and aspiration of disadvantaged children through outdoor learning.

We are raising £790,000 to fund a Viking Longhouse in our woodland which will provide an inspiring place for children to learn.

Sara Price, fundraising manager at the Trust, said: “At the moment we don’t have an indoor space large enough for evenings and in wet weather, so the longhouse will be a vital indoor space for children on our Ufton Adventure programmes.

“So far we’ve raised over £500,000 for the longhouse, but have about 30 per cent of our fundraising target remaining which is why fundraising events such as the sportive are so important.”

Details for next year’s event are due to be announced in the near future. For more information visit the event Facebook page at
